New Acronis True Image Home 2011 offers easy-to-use backup and recovery for everyone

New User Interface, Certified and Integrated with Windows 7, Enhanced Feature Set

Woburn, MA  August 24, 2010 — Acronis®, a leading provider of easy-to-use backup,  recovery and security solutions for physical, virtual and cloud environments, is today launching Acronis True Image Home 2011, the latest version of its multiple award-winning consumer backup and recovery software.

Acronis True Image Home 2011 is designed to make backing up and recovering files, folders, email, Windows® 7 libraries, or even a user’s complete system easier than before. The simple and intuitive interface will allow novice users to perform advanced backup and recovery tasks. Acronis True Image Home 2011 introduces a redesigned Graphical User Interface designed to scale to the needs of both novices and advanced users alike. It also includes a new Drag and Drop shortcut feature to quickly move a backup task to the desktop.

Features including wizards and One-Click protection help users configure the best backup and restore option for their needs, simplifying protection of important files. The new version is integrated with Windows 7 and can run off the control panel, so users can access their backups and update them with less effort. Plus, they can also launch Acronis backups from the Windows 7 taskbar.

Acronis True Image Home 2011 includes near continuous data protection for around-the-clock full-system protection and an online backup option. Acronis protects users with a single application to manage all backup and recovery tasks, whether creating full images of hard drives or saving specific files and folders online. Acronis Online Backup is an automatic, simple and secure way to back up files via the Internet.

“I really like the new interface,” said Mario Martinez, a beta tester from Sunrise, Florida. “Acronis never disappoints me. Each year, there is something new. It is really cool to see the new features.”

Acronis is also launching a new version of its Acronis True Image Home 2011 Plus Pack solution which allows a user to restore to dissimilar hardware (another make or model of a PC or laptop) so if they do not have identical standby hardware they can still restore the data quickly.

“With almost a decade’s worth of experience in developing this software, and customer feedback from thousands of users worldwide, we are confident that we have one of the most comprehensive solutions on the market,” explains Jason Donahue, CEO of Acronis. “What we’ve really tried to focus on with this release is a new interface with additional features which make the software even easier to use.”

Other new or improved features in the product include:

  • Acronis Nonstop Backup — Automatically creates incremental backups every five minutes. This feature has been expanded to support Acronis Secure Zone®, enabling users to recover on the fly, wherever they are, to any point in time, from a secure partition on their hard drive, even if their operating system has failed. This function is especially desirable for notebook users with a single hard disk drive.
  • Time Explorer — An easy way to view and manage backup files from a single screen, annotate backup comments and review screenshots that show the state of the desktop at the moment of the backup.
  • Predefined backup schemes — Users can select from different backup schemes for disk and file type backups. The program automatically manages the backups from a disk space-efficient scheme suitable for users with limited backup storage capabilities to a scheme for those users who need higher security for their data and system. In addition, users can create a custom backup scheme to suit their needs.
  • Check points — The Acronis Backup Explorer timeline shows Windows and software installation and update dates. This feature has been enhanced to see directly from Windows explorer what previous versions of a file are available and to recover from there.
  • USB 3.0 support — Acronis True Image Home supports the new USB 3.0 standard. For motherboards that work with USB 3.0 hard disk drives, users can take advantage of the high data transfer speed offered by the new standard to make backups run faster.

LanSchool releases classroom response app for the iPads, iPods, and iPhones

LanSchool Technologies LLC, a leading provider of classroom management software, announced a new free student app available in iTunes that allows teachers to assess and interact with students. The LanSchool Student app turns an iPad, iPod and iPhone into a student response system. Teachers, professors and trainers can ask students questions and the results come back in real time. Students can also ask the teacher questions without raising their hand.

“The LanSchool Student app allows either school owned or student owned devices to become classroom response devices” said Dana Doggett, president of LanSchool. “The trend of mobile devices in the classroom is growing and presents a wonderful opportunity for teachers, professors and trainers to increase collaboration and interaction with their students.”

The LanSchool Student app sends back a thumbnail of the device to the LanSchool Teacher console (PC and Mac) and to the Teacher’s Assistant running on an iPad. The student also reports back the percentage of the battery charge left so that teachers know if any of the student’s batteries are running low.

In addition to releasing the LanSchool Student app, LanSchool updated the previously released Teacher’s Assistant to run on both iOS3 and iOS4 on iPods, iPhones and iPads.

Pricing and Availability

The LanSchool Teacher’s Assistant and Student apps are available free in the iTunes App Store. However a valid LanSchool v7.4 license is required.

Kerio Connect 7.1 Offers Native Support for BlackBerry

Latest Release of Kerio Connect Integrates with BlackBerry Enterprise Server Providing over-the-air Synchronization of Mail, Contacts, and Calendars

Kerio Technologies, Inc., a leading innovator in IT security and messaging, today announced that Kerio Connect 7.1, a messaging and collaboration server, has been updated with improvements to its mobile connectivity options. Most prominent is the new Kerio Connector for BlackBerry, which provides synchronization between Kerio Connect and all BlackBerry devices.

“In Kerio Connect 7.1, we’ve focused on BlackBerry. BlackBerry smartphones work best with BlackBerry Enterprise Server or BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express, and we’ve made sure Kerio Connect 7.1 supports these servers natively,” says Dusan Vitek, VP of Worldwide Marketing at Kerio Technologies. “Mobile email has been wildly successful with our customers, and we will continue to deliver the broadest variety of wireless email options in the industry, including the iPhone and Android phones.”

“This is a welcome message for everyone with a lot of BlackBerry users. Where Microsoft SBS used to be the only option for SMB customers with remotely managed BlackBerry phones, Kerio Connect is now a viable and better long-term option for those hitting the technical limitations of their Microsoft SBS server.” says Josh Turiel, Managing Partner at JH Turiel and Associates, a Preferred Partner of Kerio, based in Beverly, Massachusetts.

Kerio Connector for BlackBerry syncs data between BlackBerry Enterprise Server and Kerio Connect. IT administrators must install Kerio Connector for BlackBerry on their BlackBerry Enterprise Server or BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express. Customers get the full manageability of their smartphones directly from BlackBerry Enterprise Server and users can use the native email, contact and calendar applications that ship with every BlackBerry phone.

Open communication standards embraced by Kerio Connect 7.1 provide new choices for customers preferring the popular iPhone 4. CardDAV and CalDAV synchronization protocols allow any user with an iPhone and iOS 4 to wirelessly synchronize contacts and calendar data between Kerio Connect and the iPhone.

Microsoft’s Exchange ActiveSync protocol has been supported in Kerio Connect for many years and now comes with a new tweak to address the rising demand for viewing public folders on mobile devices.

“A rapid shift in the adoption of shared and public folders made us look hard into improving the quality of experience for our most progressive mobile customers,” says Tomas Soukup, Product Development Manager for Kerio Connect. “We’ve built a brand new method for syncing shared and public folders with smartphones over the Exchange ActiveSync protocol, giving our customers a strong benefit they will not find elsewhere.”

Kerio Connect 7.1 ships with a new high-performance anti-virus and anti-malware scan engine from Sophos, and is fully compatible with the new Microsoft Outlook 2010.

Providing the widest choice of deployment options of any messaging and collaboration solution, Kerio Connect runs on Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, and is also available as a production-ready virtual appliance on the VMware and Parallels platforms.
