Acronis Delivers Enterprise-Grade Control and Security for Mobile File Access and Sharing in the Enterprise

Empowers IT to Control the Level of Security Needed and Promote Productivity From Personal Devices
Arlington, VA, November 12, 2013 — Acronis® today released activEcho® 3.0 and mobilEcho® 5.0, providing enterprise-level management combined with consumer-grade simplicity for secure file access, synchronization and sharing on mobile devices. These two products now include the Acronis Policy Engine, which provides granular management capabilities to create security policies and ensures control and compliance on all devices.
Employees are currently bringing their own devices to work and many others use corporate devices off-premises. Gartner® predicts this trend to keep increasing with 38 percent of companies expected to stop providing devices to workers by 2016 and half by 2017. As enterprise IT continues to lose control over which devices are accessing information and where, they need to remain assured that sensitive files will not be exposed to leaks or theft. mobilEcho 5.0 encrypts all files on mobile devices, sets expiration dates for file access and logs users’ activity.  IT can likewise use activEcho 3.0 to enhance their control by crafting security settings and privileges, so specific employees or groups have access and can share all content or a single file.
“The National Institute of Health is a publicly funded medical research organization where they need to support collaboration among researchers both between the many Institutes and Centers, as well as with those who work at research centers outside the NIH,” said J David Hester, PhD, Solutions Architect at LCG Systems, who works with multiple NIH centers and institutes on data security. “mobilEcho and activEcho not only give them the most secure and audit-capable solution that meets their Federal and internal security requirements, it is also one that is so simple, the doctors and other users require no training. It makes secure bring your own device (BYOD) a reality for the NIH.”

Consumer solutions don’t deliver the required level of control and security, and mobile device management (MDM) solutions only provide control over the device and applications, not the files. Additionally, VPN solutions neither allow users to work offline nor effectively and securely share files with partners.
Acronis mobilEcho and activEcho are deployed on-premise giving IT complete control. The two products also go beyond the limitations of MDM solutions and grant secure access to files from mobile devices. The Acronis Policy Engine itself gives the flexibility to implement security and management policies appropriate to the needs of enterprise.
“The workplace has fundamentally changed, and employees are working from home, on the road, and everywhere else,” said Anders Lofgren, VP of product management at Acronis. “Embracing these trends, IT professionals can use mobilEcho 5.0 and activEcho 3.0 to enable their colleagues to work from any device by providing secure access, sharing and syncing of files and data, under a new and easy-to-use Acronis Policy Engine. With these new products, it’s even easier for IT professionals to help their employees stay productive, without losing the security and control that enterprise requires.”

Acronis Announces Apple OS X Mavericks Support for ExtremeZ-IP

New Support Improves Enterprise IT and Mac User Productivity for 8,000 Customers by Resolving Compatibility and Performance Issues Related to Windows File, Print, and NAS Server Access

Acronis®, a leading provider of data protection solutions, today announced that Acronis ExtremeZ-IP 8.1 now supports Mac OS X® 10.9 Mavericks. ExtremeZ-IP® is the only enterprise-class software harmonizing Apple® Mac® use on Windows® servers, resolving major issues of Mac use in the largely Windows-server populated workplace.
According to a recent Forrester Research Inc. report, Apple will sell $7 billion worth of Macs to the corporate market this year, and many enterprises allow employees to bring their own devices and purchase Mac computers directly. Despite the growing number of mixed Mac-Windows environments, IT must provide the same user experience.  Due to incompatibilities between Mac and Windows, however, IT support staff are left battling corrupt files and diminished network performance, and end users can’t perform the most routine tasks, such as accessing and printing files from a Windows server.
ExtremeZ-IP is the only enterprise-class software that solves network performance degradation, file corruption, and other incompatibility-related issues caused by the different communication protocols used when accessing Windows file, print, and NAS servers from a Mac.
ExtremeZ-IP was designed to address all these issues by providing the following key features:
  • Easy enterprise-wide file sharing and printing
  • Seamless integration in a Mac-Windows infrastructure
  • Distributed File System (DFS) volume access to Macs
  • Time Machine® backup support to control available disk space quotas
  • Nearly instantaneous full-content search results with support for Mac OS Network Spotlight
  • Prevents Mac users from creating file names that are not allowed in Windows
“Acronis ExtremeZ-IP solved the compatibility and performance issues our Mac users faced when accessing Windows file, print and NAS servers,” said Youssef Slitine, Senior IT Manager at Public Access Corporation in Washington D.C. “At the same time, it significantly reduced the number of support calls to our IT help desk. With the newly released support of OS X Mavericks, our Mac users will undoubtedly continue to rely on the high productivity provided by ExtremeZ-IP while enjoying the experience of Apple’s most advanced products.”

“Working with OS X in a corporate enterprise environment has always presented its challenges,” said Jay Kainz, Owner JK Tech Services, which is a member of the Apple Consultants Network. “It’s a positive sign that Acronis continues to develop ExtremeZ-IP, because it is an irreplaceable tool in a mixed Mac and Windows enterprise infrastructure. By supporting OS X Mavericks, Acronis is showing us that they will continue to develop and keep ExtremeZ-IP a valuable tool for Mac users.”

“Today’s release demonstrates Acronis’ continued commitment to making it even easier for enterprise IT administrators to integrate the latest Mac operating systems and Apple devices into their networks,” said Brian Ulmer, director of product management at Acronis. “Our customers can be assured that we will continue to keep ExtremeZ-IP current with the latest Apple technology in the future.”

ExtremeZ-IP 8.1 is available as a free upgrade to existing customers under a maintenance contract. It can also be downloaded as a free trial and purchased by new customers via the Acronis web store, which offers two pricing options for enterprises: enterprise subscription licensing (ESL) and perpetual licensing.

Acronis Releases Highly Reliable and Scalable Storage Archiving Solution with Game-Changing Economics

First Solution to Deliver Reliable, Scalable and Efficient Storage Using Low-cost Commodity Hardware

Woburn, MA – October 15, 2013 – Acronis® today announced the release of Acronis Storage, a software-defined storage solution for archiving large volumes of data in the cloud. Multiple users, each with Petabytes of data, can now stream to this fully automated, carrier grade, elastic and resilient storage system. According to IDC, data volumes globally will grow 50 times by the year 2020 to reach 6.6 zetabytes, and 40 percent of all data will be stored and processed in the cloud. With Acronis Storage, organizations can meet increasing archiving and backup storage demands with better performance and significantly lower cost than large cloud providers like Amazon.

“As the lines between hardware, software and the cloud become increasingly
blurred, Acronis Storage exploits innovative new software-defined storage
capabilities to change the economics for service providers,” said Laura
DuBois, program vice president for IDC’s storage systems, software and
solutions research offerings. “The new offering from Acronis enables
service providers to deliver highly reliable cloud-based back-up solutions
using much less costly storage infrastructure.”

Co-founder and new Acronis CEO Serguei Beloussov is bringing his knowledge of cloud services gained from more than ten years as the CEO of Parallels® to Acronis. Enterprises and service providers, such as the thousands using Parallels hosting and automations tools, previously had to provision expensive storage capacity for logging, archiving and backup. With Acronis Storage, organizations now can significantly lower their costs while achieving high levels of reliability and scalability. Acronis Storage provides full, automated redundancy of data to prevent data loss and unplanned system downtime.

“Taking Storage Management and Deployment to the software layer is the only way to create professional, scalable tools to drive a storage as-a-service business,” said Lance Crosby, Esq. CEO at Softlayer Technologies.” Acronis is well known for their in-depth backup knowledge, so their step towards the software-defined storage market for backup and archiving makes great sense.”

“Not only has Acronis Storage allowed us to operate a large-scale, robust and flexible cloud backup solution, they have completely changed the cost structure of storage,” said Jan-Jaap Jager, CEO of intergenia, a leading provider of web hosting solutions. “The solution is totally software-based, creating high-grade storage on commodity hardware. It saves 60 percent or more capacity overhead for complete data redundancy.”

Based on a proven technology used for many years in Acronis’ own cloud storage centers, Acronis Storage optimizes:

  • Reliability. Traditional storage systems don’t consider broken storage disks or nodes as part of their protection area, resulting in unnoticed disk failures, and ultimately, data inconsistency. Acronis Storage self-healing data management technology ensures that the data remains protected and functional.
  • Scalability. Linear scaling in both capacity and number of simultaneous users is critical as organizations attempt to get ahead of user demands.Sixty percent of companies surveyed by Aberdeen Group cite “meeting the increasing demands for storage” as their top IT concern. Acronis Storage technology addresses this problem, while radically simplifying the complexity of managing increasing loads. Acronis Storage easily scales to meet the current storage needs of customers, while also providing a flexible, future-proofed storage solution to accommodate growth.
  • Efficiency. Acronis Storage is able to utilize a mix of any industry standard storage components, and provide through software, the appropriate redundancy and configurations to deliver a high-value, high-reliability, scalable storage solution.

“We’re offering an innovative solution based on proven technology for companies that want to run IT as a Service,” said Serguei Beloussov, CEO of Acronis. “This is a major focus area for us and we will continue to add advanced features. Acronis has been a trusted name in data backup and disaster recovery for a dozen years. Acronis Storage extends our data management and data protection leadership to new heights.”

Acronis Advances Secure BYOD with mobilEcho® 4.5, Including Free, In-App Office Document Editing

Turns iOS and Android Mobile Devices into Secure, Compliant and Controlled Mobile Offices, Increasing Data Security and Workplace Productivity

Woburn, Mass. – September 17, 2013 Acronis®, a leading provider of data protection solutions, today announced the launch of mobilEcho® 4.5, the latest release of its market-leading mobile file management (MFM) solution, now including free, in-app editing tools for Microsoft® Office documents; military-grade, certified encryption; and other security and ease-of use improvements. mobilEcho enables enterprises to drastically improve mobile users’ productivity, while maintaining complete control over data security and compliance. Even though organizations are able to securely access their information through a PC or a Mac, this is not the case when using a mobile device. mobilEcho integrates with Active Directory to extend control of information to mobile devices.

According to Intel®, 82 percent of companies today allow employees to use personal devices at work. However, Acronis’ 2013 Data Protection Trends Research found that 60 percent have no personal device policy in place, and, of those that do, 25 percent still make exceptions for executives. This shows that companies are increasingly vulnerable to bring-your-own-device (BYOD) risks and may be jeopardizing their data, exposing it to leakage, theft, corruption, malware and more. With mobilEcho 4.5, corporate data never has to leave the security of the app, even when editing Microsoft Office documents, thereby creating a secure, compliant, and controlled mobile work experience.

mobilEcho complements mobile device management (MDM) vendors’ basic file access solutions, providing complete security and control of corporate information on mobile devices while, at the same time, giving end users all the necessary tools to maintain productivity. For example, MDM and most MFM solutions do not include a built-in Office editor, forcing customers to purchase separate, potentially insecure apps that could compromise the integrity of sensitive data. Many of these other, third-party apps store data in a public cloud, which, without proper security or encryption, puts critical data even further at risk. mobilEcho, on the other hand, provides the ability to  manage files in one secure, corporate IT-managed location.

mobilEcho 4.5 new features:

  • Microsoft Office in-app document editing, including PDF and text documents
  • Military-grade, FIPS 140-2 certified encryption module, required by many highly-regulated industries
  • Support for SharePoint® 365, allowing organizations to grant secure access to all SharePoint content
  • Document thumbnail preview, enabling users to easily select the right files when browsing
  • Support for client certificate authentication

“We want to rewrite the rules of handling secure data,” said Anders Lofgren, VP of product management at Acronis. “By turning mobile devices into true business platforms, we can let users seamlessly access and edit documents, while maintaining a high level of security. That way, enterprise employees can continue to work efficiently using mobilEcho, while the corporation’s critical data assets remain completely protected.”

“The MobileIron® AppConnect partner ecosystem gives our customers access to the best apps in the industry for their Mobile First initiatives,” said Ojas Rege, VP Strategy, MobileIron. “Acronis mobilEcho has always been very popular with our customers and its new editing capabilities will make end users more productive while still delivering enterprise-grade security.”

“The strategic value of mobility is recognized by all major companies, but the security of applications and documents being shared by employees remains a major concern for business and IT leaders,” according to Stacy Crook, program manager, mobile enterprise research, IDC. “The ability to access and edit Office documents in a secure environment allows enterprises to take advantage of today’s mobile movement without risking data protection priorities.”

Acronis® Launches The First Complete Self-Service Backup Solution for VMware® vCloud®

Acronis Backup & Recovery® for vCloud Gives Service Providers and Enterprises First-of-Its-Kind Complete Self-Service Backup of vCloud Virtual Machines

VMworld® – San Francisco, CA; August 27, 2013 – Acronis, a leading provider of physical, virtual and cloud backup solutions, today announced the release of Acronis Backup & Recovery® for vCloud®, enabling enterprises of various size and service providers to complement VMware® vCloud Director® with self-service backup and recovery. It allows tenants and administrators to eliminate downtime and protect their virtual machines in public, private and hybrid clouds. Using Acronis’ innovative technology, service providers can now build a complete infrastructure-as-a-service offering using vCloud.

Co-founder and new CEO Serguei Beloussov brings his knowledge of service provider business, from more than ten years as the CEO of Parallels®, to Acronis’ expertise in backup. With more than 50 advanced backup technologies released to date, Acronis is now enabling backup-as-a-service with Acronis Backup & Recovery for vCloud. While VMware vCloud Director allows tenants to control their VMs directly, Acronis’ new solution provides them with additional full self-service backup of their Virtual Machines (“VMs”).

Acronis Backup & Recovery for vCloud Features:

·         Easy-to-use self-service Web console for users to control backup and recovery of their VM’s;

·         Integration with VMware vCloud Director simplifying backup and recovery of entire machines, including vCloud configuration and other metadata;

·         Fast and reliable agentless backup technology for virtual machines behind Acronis® vmProtect™ and Acronis Backup & Recovery; and

·         Seamless on-premise-to-cloud migration and disaster recovery to the cloud.

“Buy-in to our private cloud was hindered by the lack of a suitable backup solution,” said Adrian Parks, Senior Systems Specialist at the University of Oxford. “We were using in-guest agents, but this was not ideal and not our preferred option. The Acronis solution solves this challenge by providing a VM backup solution that interfaces directly with the vCloud Director APIs.”

“Acronis knows backup, and if you want to deliver infrastructure-as-a-service, you need effective backup,” said Acronis CEO Serguei Beloussov. “Before this breakthrough, self-service technology from Acronis, protecting vCloud VM’s was difficult and time consuming.  Now, Acronis has applied its expertise in backup and knowledge of service providers to build the only self-service backup solution designed specifically for VMware vCloud, making it easier and safer for enterprises and service providers to run critical applications in the cloud.”

LanSchool Announces Tech Console Device Management Software for Schools

Software enables Tech Coordinators to remotely manage all computers within a school or district from a central location at no cost for the first year

LanSchool Technologies, the leading provider of cross-platform classroom management software, today announced at ISTE 2011, LanSchool Tech Console, the new management console for use by Tech Coordinators. With TechConsole, an individual tech coordinator can easily manage, monitor and communicate with hundreds of individual classroom computers remotely from a central console, which displays the current state of all computers under management within a district or school.

“LanSchool has focused on delivering affordable classroom management software designed to help teachers become better educators in the computer-aided classroom,” said Dana Doggett, President and Founder of LanSchool. “With the Tech Console, we are helping tech coordinators become better managers of the technology they are responsible for.”

With the Tech Console, coordinators can install applications, upgrades and updates remotely to ensure that each computer on the network is running the most current software. Tech Console also allows tech coordinators to report on inventory and technology usage. To help address the needs of teachers, coordinators can use the Tech Console to communicate directly with them via live chat or remote control, guiding them through issues or alerting them of potential problems.

“We received a great deal of input from tech coordinators on their specific needs,” said Ben Cahoon, Vice President at LanSchool. “We believe that most desktop management products have become too complex for most schools. Tech Coordinators need powerful, yet simple tools to help them manage the computers they are responsible for.”

In addition to remote control, inventory and software distribution, the Tech Console enables coordinators to improve uptime by checking the security settings on each computer, verifying automatic updates and even controlling Windows SteadyState™. To conserve energy costs, tech coordinators can also set and optimize power consumption levels on all computers saving school energy costs.

Finally, to help schools through the funding challenges over the next school year, LanSchool is providing the Tech Console to K-20 educational institutions free of charge for the first year.
