Acronis Announces Apple OS X Mavericks Support for ExtremeZ-IP

New Support Improves Enterprise IT and Mac User Productivity for 8,000 Customers by Resolving Compatibility and Performance Issues Related to Windows File, Print, and NAS Server Access

Acronis®, a leading provider of data protection solutions, today announced that Acronis ExtremeZ-IP 8.1 now supports Mac OS X® 10.9 Mavericks. ExtremeZ-IP® is the only enterprise-class software harmonizing Apple® Mac® use on Windows® servers, resolving major issues of Mac use in the largely Windows-server populated workplace.
According to a recent Forrester Research Inc. report, Apple will sell $7 billion worth of Macs to the corporate market this year, and many enterprises allow employees to bring their own devices and purchase Mac computers directly. Despite the growing number of mixed Mac-Windows environments, IT must provide the same user experience.  Due to incompatibilities between Mac and Windows, however, IT support staff are left battling corrupt files and diminished network performance, and end users can’t perform the most routine tasks, such as accessing and printing files from a Windows server.
ExtremeZ-IP is the only enterprise-class software that solves network performance degradation, file corruption, and other incompatibility-related issues caused by the different communication protocols used when accessing Windows file, print, and NAS servers from a Mac.
ExtremeZ-IP was designed to address all these issues by providing the following key features:
  • Easy enterprise-wide file sharing and printing
  • Seamless integration in a Mac-Windows infrastructure
  • Distributed File System (DFS) volume access to Macs
  • Time Machine® backup support to control available disk space quotas
  • Nearly instantaneous full-content search results with support for Mac OS Network Spotlight
  • Prevents Mac users from creating file names that are not allowed in Windows
“Acronis ExtremeZ-IP solved the compatibility and performance issues our Mac users faced when accessing Windows file, print and NAS servers,” said Youssef Slitine, Senior IT Manager at Public Access Corporation in Washington D.C. “At the same time, it significantly reduced the number of support calls to our IT help desk. With the newly released support of OS X Mavericks, our Mac users will undoubtedly continue to rely on the high productivity provided by ExtremeZ-IP while enjoying the experience of Apple’s most advanced products.”

“Working with OS X in a corporate enterprise environment has always presented its challenges,” said Jay Kainz, Owner JK Tech Services, which is a member of the Apple Consultants Network. “It’s a positive sign that Acronis continues to develop ExtremeZ-IP, because it is an irreplaceable tool in a mixed Mac and Windows enterprise infrastructure. By supporting OS X Mavericks, Acronis is showing us that they will continue to develop and keep ExtremeZ-IP a valuable tool for Mac users.”

“Today’s release demonstrates Acronis’ continued commitment to making it even easier for enterprise IT administrators to integrate the latest Mac operating systems and Apple devices into their networks,” said Brian Ulmer, director of product management at Acronis. “Our customers can be assured that we will continue to keep ExtremeZ-IP current with the latest Apple technology in the future.”

ExtremeZ-IP 8.1 is available as a free upgrade to existing customers under a maintenance contract. It can also be downloaded as a free trial and purchased by new customers via the Acronis web store, which offers two pricing options for enterprises: enterprise subscription licensing (ESL) and perpetual licensing.

Acronis Releases Highly Reliable and Scalable Storage Archiving Solution with Game-Changing Economics

First Solution to Deliver Reliable, Scalable and Efficient Storage Using Low-cost Commodity Hardware

Woburn, MA – October 15, 2013 – Acronis® today announced the release of Acronis Storage, a software-defined storage solution for archiving large volumes of data in the cloud. Multiple users, each with Petabytes of data, can now stream to this fully automated, carrier grade, elastic and resilient storage system. According to IDC, data volumes globally will grow 50 times by the year 2020 to reach 6.6 zetabytes, and 40 percent of all data will be stored and processed in the cloud. With Acronis Storage, organizations can meet increasing archiving and backup storage demands with better performance and significantly lower cost than large cloud providers like Amazon.

“As the lines between hardware, software and the cloud become increasingly
blurred, Acronis Storage exploits innovative new software-defined storage
capabilities to change the economics for service providers,” said Laura
DuBois, program vice president for IDC’s storage systems, software and
solutions research offerings. “The new offering from Acronis enables
service providers to deliver highly reliable cloud-based back-up solutions
using much less costly storage infrastructure.”

Co-founder and new Acronis CEO Serguei Beloussov is bringing his knowledge of cloud services gained from more than ten years as the CEO of Parallels® to Acronis. Enterprises and service providers, such as the thousands using Parallels hosting and automations tools, previously had to provision expensive storage capacity for logging, archiving and backup. With Acronis Storage, organizations now can significantly lower their costs while achieving high levels of reliability and scalability. Acronis Storage provides full, automated redundancy of data to prevent data loss and unplanned system downtime.

“Taking Storage Management and Deployment to the software layer is the only way to create professional, scalable tools to drive a storage as-a-service business,” said Lance Crosby, Esq. CEO at Softlayer Technologies.” Acronis is well known for their in-depth backup knowledge, so their step towards the software-defined storage market for backup and archiving makes great sense.”

“Not only has Acronis Storage allowed us to operate a large-scale, robust and flexible cloud backup solution, they have completely changed the cost structure of storage,” said Jan-Jaap Jager, CEO of intergenia, a leading provider of web hosting solutions. “The solution is totally software-based, creating high-grade storage on commodity hardware. It saves 60 percent or more capacity overhead for complete data redundancy.”

Based on a proven technology used for many years in Acronis’ own cloud storage centers, Acronis Storage optimizes:

  • Reliability. Traditional storage systems don’t consider broken storage disks or nodes as part of their protection area, resulting in unnoticed disk failures, and ultimately, data inconsistency. Acronis Storage self-healing data management technology ensures that the data remains protected and functional.
  • Scalability. Linear scaling in both capacity and number of simultaneous users is critical as organizations attempt to get ahead of user demands.Sixty percent of companies surveyed by Aberdeen Group cite “meeting the increasing demands for storage” as their top IT concern. Acronis Storage technology addresses this problem, while radically simplifying the complexity of managing increasing loads. Acronis Storage easily scales to meet the current storage needs of customers, while also providing a flexible, future-proofed storage solution to accommodate growth.
  • Efficiency. Acronis Storage is able to utilize a mix of any industry standard storage components, and provide through software, the appropriate redundancy and configurations to deliver a high-value, high-reliability, scalable storage solution.

“We’re offering an innovative solution based on proven technology for companies that want to run IT as a Service,” said Serguei Beloussov, CEO of Acronis. “This is a major focus area for us and we will continue to add advanced features. Acronis has been a trusted name in data backup and disaster recovery for a dozen years. Acronis Storage extends our data management and data protection leadership to new heights.”
